Dr. Melissa Gaa is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, with a Master’s degree in Family Studies from the University of New Mexico, and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Texas Tech University.
Having worked with a broad spectrum of children, adolescents, adult individuals, couples and families in a variety of clinical, school, private and non-profit settings, Dr. Gaa brings a wealth of experience to Blank Slate Therapy. She has a passion for helping clients of all ages establish more meaningful and emotionally healthy lives.
Among her areas of expertise are the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders, stress, major life transitions, trauma, substance abuse recovery, family systems, relationships, and much more. She utilizes play and art therapy techniques with her child/adolescent clients.
Dr. Gaa brings experience working with children and adolescents as a behavior specialist in the schools. She has counseled adolescents and their families in the juvenile justice system, and has worked with individuals of all ages experiencing past trauma. She has counseled clients struggling with addictions in both private and Intensive Outpatient settings, as well as couples and families with a myriad of presenting concerns. She is a Certified Trauma Informed Yoga Therapist and a certified facilitator of Overcoming Anxiety Clinics for adults, adolescents, and children. Dr. Gaa also enjoys mentoring future counselors, serving as an Assistant Professor at Tarleton State University.
