Susan McGraw, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years' experience providing counseling or psychotherapy in psychiatric inpatient units, residential programs, partial hospital programs, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Virginia and a Master of Social Welfare (MSW) degree from UCLA.
Susan has provided professional psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, college students and adults as well as families and groups. Her areas of expertise include depression and anxiety, health-related concerns, recovery from trauma and other stressful life circumstances, eating disorder recovery, stressors associated with environmental illness, unusual sensitivities or sensory experiences, life transitions, middle-aging, and the unique considerations and complications of geriatric years including stress for family members and caregivers. Susan offers extensive experience with eating disorder recovery, having spent several years working with adolescents and adults at the individual, family and group levels.
Susan listens from her heart. She understands there are reasons why problems occur. She sees peoples' strengths and knows they can co-create solutions, allowing as much time and as many steps as it takes. She has seen people make changes they never thought possible. Facing and working through problems helps people find or develop increased strength, depth, wisdom, healthy self-love and self-respect. Susan’s therapy approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), components of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Gestalt, Client Centered Therapy, Body Centered techniques, expressive therapies, play therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and EMDR. She facilitates therapy groups and offers classes on various topics which aid in the therapy process such as learning CBT, identifying values, changing habits/patterns, body image, emotional self-regulation, self-esteem, mindfulness, meditation, learning and practicing deep relaxation, and healthy interpersonal boundaries.
